Search and Culling

Unlike most providers, BlackStone’s platform creates its searchable index from not only extracted text elements, but all possible metadata fields, characters, code and OCR elements as well.

  • Coding: Coding documents with specific fields assists with the review of client data. Our seasoned team can quickly review and code documents to streamline attorney review by categorizing original client materials with basic information such as Custodian, Source, Document Type (fax, email, personnel files, and etc.).
  • OCR: Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is a process that captures text to make a document searchable. Why is this important? It is easier to run a keyword search across a high volume of documents than it is to manually review/read each document to find potentially relevant material.
    OCR is not created equally. Anyone with Adobe Acrobat Professional can OCR a document. However, besides being time consuming and done on a document level, the OCR engines employed at BlackStone are faster and capture text from multiple angles. 
  • Discovery Log: Detailed Discovery Logs enable the legal team to track all sensitive client data from collection and native document review through production and eventual use in future related matters. Discovery Logs bring a level of security, addressing the confidential nature of these documents through acting as a basic Chain of Custody while in outside parties’ hands.
